Marmore Falls

PARK TOUR AND ADVENTURE RAFTING AT MARMORE WATERFALL

The creation of the Waterfall dates back to 271 BC. It is a formidable work of Roman engineering that served to facilitate the outflow of the waters of the Velino River, which were responsible for frequent and disastrous floods and the transformation of vast expanses of land into unhealthy swamps. In later periods and up to the Renaissance, further improvements were made to the present arrangement.

ART AND CULTURE: A TREASURE CHEST

A region rich in art and history, home of St. Francis and a favorite Grand Tour destination. Through the path of the Poverello of Assisi, you can visit numerous churches and convents, starting with the Basilica of Assisi and the Porziuncola of Santa Maria degli Angeli. An itinerary that lives again in the pages of great literature of the past starts right from the Marmore Falls to Piediluco Lake, as recounted by Goethe and Lord Bayron, in the Grand Tour of the 19th century.

The more adventurous will find routes leading to abbeys, settlements of ancient hermits, such as that of Saints Felice and Mauro at the gates of the Valnerina, in Val di Narco. There is no shortage of museums, such as that of Hemp in Sant’Anatolia di Narco, dedicated to the ancient art of loom weaving, and that of the ancient mummies of Ferentillo. Unique places, both for adults and children, to be experienced also thanks to numerous educational workshops.
